Anthropogenic Global Warming(AGW) is the conclusion that Climate Change is mainly caused by human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels for energy. There have been several skeptics to this scientific consensus. You can find them by typing in "Global Warming Scientific Evidence" on any search engine. By your search results you would probably conclude there is widespread dissent on AGW in the scientific community. There is not. It just happens that there is quite a bit of funding to spread that impression in order to create masses of Global Warming Skeptics in society. Sadly, they have largely succeeded...... so far.
Several leading scientific Global Warming skeptics—Tim Ball, Fred Singer, Douglas Leahey, Fred Seitz and Patrick Michaels—have been linked to organizations funded by ExxonMobil and Philip Morris for the purpose of promoting global warming skepticism. Also, groups employing global warming skeptics have been criticized for their ties to fossil fuel companies.
Some of the Institutes that have a funding connection from Fossil Fuel Companies are:
* Annapolis Center for Science Based Public Policy
* Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow
* Competitive Enterprise Institute
* George C. Marshall Institute
* Global Climate Coalition
* Heartland Institute
* Heritage Foundation
* Tech Central Station
* The Friends of Science
* The Cato Institute
* The Cooler Heads Coalition
* Center for Science and Pubic Policy
Almost all the leading Scientific Global Warming Skeptics have little or no peer-reviewed climate research and are hired as consultants.
The majority of climate scientists agree that global warming is primarily caused by human activities such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation. The conclusion that Climate Change is man-made (AGW) and will continue if greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced has been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including:
* All of the National Academies of Science of the major industrialized countries
* The U.S. National Academy of Sciences
* The American Association for the Advancement of Science
While some critics have argued that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) overstates likely Anthropogenic Global Warming, others have made the opposite criticism. David Biello, writing in the Scientific American, argues that, because of the need to secure consensus among governmental representatives, the IPCC reports give conservative estimates of the likely extent and effects of global warming. Climate scientist James Hansen, of NASA, argues that the IPCC's conservativeness seriously underestimates the risk of sea-level rise on the order of meters—enough to inundate many low-lying areas, such as the southern third of Florida.
Many climate scientists state that they are put under enormous pressure to distort or hide any scientific results which suggest that human activity is to blame for global warming. A survey of climate scientists which was reported to the US House Oversight and Government Reform Committee noted that "Nearly half of all respondents perceived or personally experienced pressure to eliminate the words 'climate change', 'global warming' or other similar terms from a variety of communications." These scientists were pressured to conform their reports on global warming to fit the Bush Administration's climate change skepticism. In some cases, this was done at the request of a former oil-industry lobbyist. The Obama Administration is much more in tune with the effects of Climate Change but they are fighting against the well known tactics of "Continuous Misinformation" and "Doubt Creation" by the Right Wing. Without the lead , let alone co-operation, of the United States there is not much hope in solving the carbon emission problem.
When one thinks about who has something to gain by spreading misinformation on AGW you don't have to look far. Think about the companies who have the most to lose(short term) by not looking at renewable energy and new alternative energy technologies:
1. Coal Energy Companies
2. Certain Oil Companies(ExxonMobil for one)
3. Mining and Manufacturing Companies that would have to pay taxes for Carbon Offsets
You know who these companies are. They have been polluting our planet for ages with profits to come above all else. As a business you owe it to your investors to try and make a profit. Along with that comes a moral obligation to your environment for your fellow man, the ecology of the planet, and all that come after us. Do not let the people behind the Global Warming Skeptics win.
